Hinged wooden box

This hinged wooden box on short legs in white and gold is part of a series of different objects inspired by the work of Carl Fabergé.

Besides this small white box that can be placed on a (side) table, I also made a pink storage cabinet, a blue free standing box to stand on the floor and a yellow wooden bowl.

All four works are draped with a diamond pattern of gold leaf and on the crossed lines crystal beads.

Like a Fabergé egg can surprise by opening them, the inside of this decorative box will surprise you by, in this case, a modest inside.

The inside of this hinged wooden box shows you a firmament with many warm brown moons on a white washed brown surface and golden stars.

Positive and negative decoration

So the decoration inside the box has two components.

A negative one; the moons created by covering the brown base before applying the white wash paint, and a positive one; by applying gold leaf for the stars on top of the paint. Like the sculpture Tattoo.

The bras knob on the front is a very old.

The box stands on four cabinet legs that I use more often in my work.
